The Montreal miracle sadly did not occur in the race to qualify for the 2019 Major League Soccer playoffs but the Impact will live to fight another day. With a bit of luck, 2020 could be their time to climb up the Eastern Conference ladder and battle for supremacy.
Despite their struggles this campaign, Montreal have enjoyed reasonable success in home fixtures. The Impact are by no means a sure-fire thing to win this weekend but punters will fancy Montreal to push the Red Bulls close in their bid to claim three points.
Meanwhile, New York’s playoff spot has been safe for some time and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Red Bulls rest a few key players this weekend. Heading north to Montreal is never an easy fixture and New York will be wary of potential injuries ahead of the playoffs.
At the time of writing, the Red Bulls are 13/10 with Betway to secure the win this weekend and three points will certainly be welcomed with the postseason looming large. Expect the unexpected in this fixture – it really could go either way.

Montreal Cannot Make Same Mistakes In 2020
The Impact only have themselves to blame after falling short in their pursuit of a playoff spot this year. The postseason was there for the taking but Montreal shot themselves in the foot on more than one occasion – a string of poor results midway through the campaign cost the Canadian side dearly in the end.
Scoring the opening goal in games is always important but it almost seems vital for Montreal when it comes to winning matches. Once the Impact fall behind, they very rarely find the mental strength and resilience to bounce back and turn that into a positive result.
In MLS, you need to prove that you can scrape a win or a draw when you’re not playing well and that is where Montreal are falling short at the moment. If the Impact can sort that out ahead of 2020, it could be a very exciting campaign.
Red Bulls – Strong MLS Cup Contenders?
New York are bang in contention to win the MLS Cup this season and it would take a brave man to back against them on current form. Three points this weekend could see the Red Bulls finish as high as third in the Eastern Conference standings and that would certainly constitute a successful season with their passionate fan base.
Defensively, the Red Bulls can be found wanting though and that may be their downfall in the postseason. Having conceded 48 goals in 33 regular season games, New York must focus on improving that particular area of the field sooner rather than later if they want to push for MLS Cup glory in the coming weeks.
The heart says the Montreal Impact but the head says the New York Red Bulls. Major League Soccer games are never black and white but there is a clear gulf in class between the teams and Montreal may find themselves up against it. If the Red Bulls go for the jugular, things may get ugly for the Canadian side.
With this being Montreal’s final home game of the campaign, the Impact could prove us all wrong though – a win over a genuine MLS Cup contender would certainly go down well with the fans. For us though, a New York Red Bulls win is very appealing at the prices and it could turn out to be the best bet of the weekend.
