Major League Soccer fans, are you ready? We are just days away from the 2019 MLS Cup and two old rivals will once again compete for soccer’s ultimate prize.
This year’s showpiece will mark the third time in the space of four years that Seattle and Toronto have done battle on the big stage and MLS fans will be hoping for an exciting clash this weekend.
Toronto are priced at 13/8 with 888sport to lift the trophy on Sunday evening and plenty of punters will be tempted – the Canadian side certainly represent value for money.
With their ‘never say die’ mentality, Greg Vanney’s men will make themselves very difficult to beat at CenturyLink Field. Seattle fans will almost certainly outnumber Toronto but that doesn’t mean that the Sounders will prevail.
However, Seattle are worthy favourites given their regular season form and efforts during the playoffs. Like Toronto, the Sounders defied the odds to secure a 3-1 victory at LAFC in the Western Conference semi-finals.
Taking that into account, Seattle should prove too strong for the Canadian side on Sunday night. It won’t be straightforward but the Sounders are well fancied to claim their second MLS Cup triumph.
There isn’t much value in backing the Sounders at 4/9 to lift the trophy but 19/20 to win in regulation time is worth considering. Without further ado, it is time to look at the MLS Cup final – who will be celebrating come the final whistle?
Event Date: November 10, 2019
Seattle Destined To Triumph On Home Turf?
Can the Sounders cope with the pressure of being clear favourites? Seattle fell short in their most recent MLS Cup clash with Toronto in 2017 and Brian Schmetzer’s side will be quietly confident of getting revenge on the biggest stage of all this weekend.
Raul Ruidiaz has been in prolific goal scoring form for Seattle this season, notching 14 goals in 25 appearances this campaign. William Hill are pricing the Peru international at 23/10 to get his name on the scoresheet and neutrals will be watching him closely on Sunday night.
Toronto Looking To Upset The Odds… Again
Toronto will be used to the underdog role by now – the Canadian side have been expected to lose in every Major League Soccer playoff game this year. However, Vanney’s men have consistently defied the odds but this is their biggest test yet.
Striker Jozy Altidore has claimed that it will take a miracle for him to play in the MLS Cup but Seattle will be preparing for his inclusion in the squad. Fully fit, Altidore is a class above his peers and Toronto could certainly do with his impact and influence off the bench.
However, Toronto’s first port of call will be to silence the Seattle crowd. Whether Altidore is fit or not, quietening the CenturyLink Stadium faithful will be key to their chances of glory. If Toronto can frustrate Seattle, the game should start to open up.
We’ve dismissed Toronto lightly in recent weeks but it would be foolish to do that again – the Canadian side are here on merit. Vanney will have his troops fired up and ready to go to war on Sunday night and this could go down to the wire.
Major League Soccer is renowned for attacking play and we could see plenty of goals in the MLS Cup showpiece. The 22/25 for over 2.5 goals with Marathon Bet is the way to go for any neutrals. To fans of the two teams involved, good luck and may the best team win.
TIP: Over 2.5 goals (22/25 with MarathonBet)
CORRECT SCORE: Seattle Sounders 2-1 Toronto FC (7/1 with 888sport)
