The sporting calendar may have been adversely affected in the first half of 2020 but the NFL is scheduled to continue as normal.
From September, teams from across the US will be competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy which was won back in February by the Kansas City Chiefs.
In this slow period for sports betting, there are lots of NFL futures and props to look at so let’s move straight on and see what’s in store.
The most improbable completion of 2019?
— NFL (@NFL) May 26, 2020
It’s an obvious place to start so who’s in the frame for Super Bowl LV? Outright winner markets show Kansas City Chiefs as narrow favourites at odds of 7.00 with PowerPlay while the same bookmaker has the Baltimore Ravens just behind at 7.50.
The value could lie in 2020 runners up the San Francisco 49ers who are out at 10.00 with Bet365. After a strong 2020 and the addition of some exciting round 1 draft picks, the 49ers look a strong pick at this early stage.
Best Bet: San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LV at 10.00 with Bet365.
Outrights are available on each division and while most have a clear favourite
, the NFC North is much tighter with just a tiny fraction of a point separating the teams at the top.
The Minnesota Vikings are ahead in this one at 2.55 with Sports Interaction but Green Bay Packers had a strong 2019 and look more likely to convert.
Best Bet: Green Bay Packers to win NFC North at 2.56 with Sports Interaction.
Team Props – Las Vegas Raiders
They’re on their travels again as the team previously based in Oakland and in LA start 2020 as the Las Vegas Raiders. This will be the first time an NFL side has been based in Nevada so naturally there’s lots of interest around them ahead of the new campaign.
Unfortunately, the Raiders will transfer much of the roster that has underwhelmed in recent seasons so not much is expected from them. All franchises have markets for total wins in the regular season and while 10Bet are quoting 1.83 to go Under 7.5, we suspect you can be braver and take Over 7.5 at 2.00 with the same sportsbook.
Best Bet: Las Vegas Raiders to win Over 7.5 games in the regular season at 2.00 with 10Bet.
As we’re predicting a more positive start for the Raiders in 2020, we can also look at their finishing position in AFC West.
Odds of 11.00 to win it look too ambitious but at 3.40 with Sports Interaction to come through in second place, we have the potential for a decent return.
Best Bet: Las Vegas Raiders to finish second in AFC West at 3.40 with Sports Interaction
Team Props – Miami Dolphins
There are total wins markets on all franchises and some lines are set quite low. We won’t cover all options but there could be some value in the Miami Dolphins who are quoted at 2.05 with 10Bet to win less than six matches.
After starting 0-7 in 2019, the Dolphins finished strongly to win five of their last nine but don’t expect them to carry that momentum over into a difficult season.
Best Bet: Miami Dolphins to win less than six games at 2.05 with 10Bet
Coach Props: The first Coach to Leave
NFL betting covers a lot of bases and there are markets available on the first coach to leave their post in 2020. The team with the worst opening record will usually deliver the profit and although that isn’t always the case, we’re generally looking for some likely slow starters.
Sports Interaction has Detroit Lions’ Matt Patricia as the favourite at 4.00 while Doug Marrone of the Jacksonville Jaguars is next at 5.00. Both are worthy contenders but we’re more interested in Adam Gase at a generous 9.00 with Sports Interaction again. The Jets’ coach came under pressure from the media and his own fans after a poor campaign in 2019 and we don’t expect him to survive much longer in the hot seat.
Best Bet: Adam Gase to be the first coach fired at 9.00 with Sports Interaction.
Player Props: Cam Newton
Lots of player props will be available that relate to performances but in the case of Cam Newton, it’s all about his starting location in 2020. The Quarterback is a free agent but it’s unlikely that he will stay unemployed for long so you may have to be quick on this one.
The favourites in this race are the New England Patriots at 4.50 with Sports Interaction and this time, we’re not going to argue. With Tom Brady gone, New England needs experienced cover and Newton is a ready-made package.
Best Bet: Cam Newton to be on the New England Patriots’ Roster in Week 1 at 4.50 with Sports Interaction.
Player Props: Tom Brady
Speaking of Tom Brady, we’re not expecting Tampa Bay’s new signing to get as much game time as some might think. At the age of 43, he’s an evergreen presence but form and potential fitness concerns are on the line.
For those reasons, we’re finishing with Sports Interaction’s odds of 2.00 on Brady to throw less than 4200.5 passing yards in the regular season.
Best Bet: Tom Brady to throw less than 4200.5 passing yards in the regular season at 2.00 with Sports Interaction.
