The Winnipeg Jets are in a strong position ahead of Game 5 in their First Round series with the St Louis Blues – punters will fancy the Canadian side to go on and advance to the next round. With two of the three remaining games taking place at home, Winnipeg know that victory in those matches will be enough to move one step closer to the Stanley Cup.
With the likes of Dustin Byfuglien, Kyle Connor and Andrew Copp in fine form, the Jets are primed to take control of the series. All three players recorded two points apiece in the 6-3 victory over St Louis in Game 3 and another heavy success in favour of Winnipeg beckons if everything goes to plan. 4/5 for the Jets to win could turn out to be a huge price.
For St Louis, trying to restore some belief and confidence is key here. If they can push the Jets close or even nick a result, the momentum will swing back towards the Blues. There are still plenty of twists and turns to go in this series and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see one of these teams competing for the Stanley Cup in the coming weeks.
The Blues will take confidence from their road form in the series – St Louis have won both games at Bell MTS Place. A third win on Winnipeg ice will cement their status as Stanley Cup contenders and punters may be tempted by the 16/1 price for the Blues to go on and lift ice hockey’s ultimate prize this year…

Back-To-Back Wins Has Put Jets In Control
It looked like the Jets were going to crumble in the first round of the playoffs yet again but Winnipeg have shown great resilience to bounce back after going 2-0 down in the series. On current form, you’d be hard pressed to back against the Jets not only in their pursuit of the series but also in their bid to claim a first Stanley Cup crown.
Now 15/1 to win ice hockey’s ultimate prize, the Jets are well placed to reach the next stage of the playoffs. Winnipeg relied on Blake Wheeler during the regular season but others have stepped up in the postseason. With so many players contributing at both ends of the ice, we could see the Jets run riot.
Blues Need Luck To Turn Things Around
St Louis have reached the NHL playoffs in seven of the last eight years and the Blues are now very experienced at this level. However, it would take a brave man to back St Louis to go all the way in their pursuit of glory – the Blues fall just short when it comes to consistency and quality across the entire roster.
However, they did end the regular season with one more win and five fewer defeats than in 2017/18 and that can only mean positive things for Blues supporters. With a bit of luck on the recruitment front, we could see the Blues competing at the top of the National Hockey League for many years to come.
A low-scoring affair awaits. The Jets scraped past their opponents in Game 4 and another close contest looks likely here. Yes, Winnipeg have the offensive prowess to blow St Louis out of the water but the Blues will want to keep this tight and it could mature into a bit of a tactical battle.
There’s no doubt that a tight contest suits St Louis more than an open and expansive clash but the Jets will take some stopping no matter how the game goes. Watch this space, we could see the Canadian side move ahead in the series for the first time.
TIP: Winnipeg Jets to win
