UFC 252: Odds and Betting Preview

The 252nd edition of Ultimate Fighting Championship goes off in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 15th and we have another thrilling bill in store. Billed as Miocic vs Cormier 3, the highlight is their heavyweight showdown but the undercard holds some intriguing options.

There are 11 fights in total so let’s take a look at the best options from a betting perspective.

UFC 252

The Big One

A trilogy will be completed on Saturday when the champion Stipe Miocic takes on Daniel Cormier with the UFC heavyweight belt on the line. The first encounter between these two fighters went with Cormier who claimed a first-round knockout after stepping back up from heavyweight. Miocic gained revenge at UFC 241 so this would suggest an evenly matched contest.

The sportsbooks agree with that theory and many have listed both men at the same win price. Powerplay are among a number of outlets quoting 1.90 for Miocic while Bet365, and others, have 1.90 for a Cormier victory.

Their fight records are similar too with both men suffering three defeats in their career. It’s a tough call but Cormier’s greater desire for revenge might just be enough to get him over the line.

Next Up

As with any UFC fight night, the better value might just lie in the undercard. For the 252nd edition, there are some interesting matchups and, just ahead of the main event we have a bantamweight battle between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.

O’Malley is very much the favourite here at 1.30 with Sports Interaction while Vera is a tempter at 3.55 with Bodog. O’Malley has a perfect record of 12 from 12 while Vera’s return is modest with 15 from 22 but the Ecuadorian is a threat and no-one should write him off.

Best of the Rest

We’re left with nine more fights from UFC 252 and while we can’t cover all of these bouts, we’ll just touch on the best value moving through the schedule. Another intriguing heavyweight battle takes place deep into the night with Junior Dos Santos taking on Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

This is one fight where we could be looking at the outsider: Former kickboxer Rozenstruik has a better record with ten wins from eleven but he’s inexperienced in the octagon and could be set up for a fall. Dos Santos is an inconsistent fighter with 21 wins from 28 but he’s another man who can beat any opponent when he’s on his game. Rozenstruik is the clear favourite at 1.61 with Powerplay but Dos Santos is the pick at 2.20 with Spin Sports.

Beyond the top three events, we suspect that the remainder of the card may well go with the favourites 10Bet.

Of all the remaining favourites, we suspect that this is a clear cut contest and while neither fighter has an exceptional record, Yoder’s is modest at best. The odds of 1.62 aren’t exciting but they look likely to convert and are typical of what we can find on most of the UFC 252 card. They can also complete what we feel to be the most likely parlay of the evening.
